James R. Brown II, 74, of Wintersville died Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at Trinity West. He was born July 22, 1952 in Steubenville. He is the son of the late James and Martha Orr Brown.
James was retired from Jefferson County Jobs and Family Services, where he was a supervisor in the jobs unit for many years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #4361. James was a graduate of Steubenville High School class of 1970 and then went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Washington & Jefferson.
Surviving him are his wife, Becky Fowler Brown, whom he married on September 1, 1984; three sons, James R. Brown III of Wintersville, Bryan Brown of Robinson, PA and Timothy Brown of Indiana; one daughter Sarah Brown of Wintersville; two brothers Jeffrey (Suzanne) Brown of Wintersville and Thomas (Margie) Brown of Olathe, KS.
Jim was a quiet hero. As a Minor league baseball coach he took on a challenge of helping a young man with cerebral palsy play and practice with the team.
Jim's proudest accomplishment was actively raising his 4 children. He was so proud of the young adults they each became.
He could be seen walking downtown during his lunch visiting with people. He often said he enjoyed being part of a vibrant community
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Fr. Michael Gossett will celebrate. Burial will take place at a later date.
