JOEL JOSE

JOEL JOSE

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Joel George Jose, 58, of Steubenville, Ohio went home to his Lord, surrounded by his loving family, on July 28, 2026.

Joel was born on April 29, 1968 to Gumercindo and Libertad Jose in Pittsburgh, PA. The family moved to Steubenville, OH in 1974 where Joel attended Holy Rosary and Catholic Central High School. In 1989, he graduated from Kent State University with a BS in Chemistry. Joel's father was a general surgeon and his most influential role model. Following in his father's footsteps, Joel focused on healthcare and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. During dental school he met his wife, Judy and they were married on November 12, 1994. Together, they pursued endodontic specialty training at the University of Connecticut and established their private practice in Columbus, Ohio. He viewed it a privilege to provide endodontic care for 27 years. Joel's patients always spoke of his gentle, gracious approach, which he attributed to his mother.

Joel was a loving, dedicated husband, father and friend to everyone he met. He prioritized uniting family and close friends to create treasured memories to pass down through the generations. Joel was known for his keen, witty humor, and loved family singing sessions on road trips. Joel had a propensity for Harry Potter and any dinosaur movies. His greatest joy in life was golfing with his family.

Joel was immensely proud of his sons, Nathan and Jacob, especially when they both chose to bravely serve our country by attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. Passionate about fitness, Joel became a certified kettlebell and personal trainer. He thoughtfully designed his home gym, the "Southfield Barbell Club," utilizing every conceivable fitness modality to not only train his sons Nathan (USMA 2023; Army Tennis) and Jacob (USMA 2028; Army Rugby), but also to meet the needs of his other elite-level athletes. Always striving to improve himself and support his sons, Joel was actively learning about various sports. Most recently, he became a student of the art of Brazilian JiuJitsu and TaiChi.

Whether it was sharing his knowledge of weight lifting, tennis or golf, Joel was always committed to helping others develop and improve their skills and health.

Joel was a devout Catholic, with daily early morning Bible study and regularly attending week day masses. One of his favorite verses, Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" was the mantra that guided his life. Joel cherished the family he and Judy created together, and was endlessly grateful for this divine blessing and the family memories.

Joel is survived by his loving wife, Judy Jose (nee Roh), sons, Joel Nathan and Jacob, sister, Estelita Stephan Esq.
