Shirley Ann (Frey) Cool passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026 at the age of 90. Born December 8, 1935 in Steubenville, Ohio to George and Anna (Linton) Frey. Shirley was next to the youngest in a family of 12, consisting of 7 girls and 5 boys. She graduated from Big Red High School and worked and retired from the Weirton Kroger's in the Deli Department in 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church on West Street in Weirton. Shirley's faith was strong throughout her entire life and was proud to say she invited Christ into her life at the age of 12.
She loved birds and bird watching. She also enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions, always looking for a deal or a nice piece of pottery. When she was younger, Shirley loved going to her large family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers Grant, George, Roger, Gary and Curt Frey, her sisters Mildred Deuvall, Betty Jane Fichtner, Priscilla Campbell, Geraldine Schmidt, Alberta Miller and her former husband Harold Cool.
She is survived by her son Greg (Erin) of Weirton, Erin's children Cole (Natalie) Petrelle, Amanda (Andrew) Grogg, 2 great grandchildren Cameron and Palmer, sister Lillian Simko, sister-in-law Marilyn Frey, and many nieces and nephews.
The Cool family would like to thank the staff at Weirton Geriatric Center's Enchanted Garden Unit and Valley Hospice for the excellent care, compassion and love they provided to Shirley.
Services will be held at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, Penco Road, Weirton on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 3 p.m.-7 p.m., where Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 17, 2026 at 11 a.m., with Elder Roger Criss presiding. Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates in Wintersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 3301 West Street, Weirton, the Weirton Community Bread Basket, P.O. Box 154, Weirton, WV 26062, or the charity of donator's choice.
