MAUREEN BROWN

Maureen Winstanley Brown, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Born in Lancashire, England, on April 8, 1940, she was a daughter of James and Mary Hurst Winstanley.

Maureen was a natural caregiver, receiving her education and developing her nurturing talents as a nurse in England before turning her focus to her family. As a devoted wife to her soulmate of 60 years, John E. Brown, who sadly predeceased her on January 30, 2019, together they created a warm, loving home filled with the laughter and joy of their six wonderful children. Maureen's life was a testament to the love she poured into her family, ensuring a home rich with memories and the enchanting melodies of Irish music.

Her strong Roman Catholic faith guided her actions and decisions, instilling in her children the values of love, compassion, and service. Maureen was an enthusiastic gardener, reflecting her roots and capturing the essence of an authentic English garden at her home on Lindberg Way. She and John took immense pride in providing for their family, embracing their move from England as an opportunity to create a brighter future.

Throughout her life, Maureen exemplified the spirit of caring, just as she experienced firsthand the compassionate support from those around her during her final days. Friends and family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Missy Joy and her team for their exemplary caregiving and loving support. She also received the same love and attentiveness from Valley Hospice that she so freely gave to others -- a true reflection of her gentle and nurturing nature.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, John, Maureen was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Walters.

Left to cherish Maureen's memory are her children, Colleen (Robert) Weeda of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Terence “Terry” (Yvonne) Brown of Moon Township, PA; Christina (Terry) Barnett of Seven Lakes, NC; Michael (Susie) Brown of Stafford, VA; Matthew (Jolena) Brown of Follansbee, WV; and Erin (Jacob) Koper of Pittsburgh, PA; her sister, Kathleen Holding; 12 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Maureen always enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially time spent indulging in laughter and sharing special moments with her neighbors: Tina and David Baker, Tina Greer, and Denise Schwab.

She will also be deeply missed by her faithful fur babies, Ruby, Lily, and Leo, who brought her great joy and companionship.

Friends can visit Mrs. Brown's family on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV.
