Grant S. “Chookie” Starr Sr., 83, of Steubenville, OH, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, in the Valley Hospice Care Center in Steubenville. Grant was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Steubenville, son of the late Grant J. and Nellie (Albright) Starr. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Mingo Jct. where he worked as a Product Control Engineer. Grant was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Choir, and he cared for the church bells. Frances was born Feb. 7, 1933, in Front Royal, VA, daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Deavers) Findlay. She had previously worked at the former LaBelle Nursing Home in the Laundry Dept. Gary E. Gajtka of Weirton passed away on December 15, 2023, at the Weirton Medical Center. He was seventy-three years old. Gary was born on July 12, 1950, one of eight children born to Stanley and Annabelle Jefferies Gajtka. He attended Hancock County schools and was an avid gambler, traveling to Mountaineer Park and betting on professional and college sports, watching any of the televised NFL games, and his favorite, playing the sheet.
