An early taste of Christmas spirit
For 17 years, the annual Christmas in the Park event held in Follansbee has offered residents of the Tri-State Area the chance to get an early start on the holiday season.
Set for this weekend at Follansbee Municipal Park, the festival provides a fun time for area families and celebrates the holiday season’s spirit of giving, with proceeds being divided among local charitable organizations and a local child in medical need.
This year’s event will benefit the REACH food pantry, with funding also going to the Chris Weiler Scholarship, created in memory of a Brooke County educator who died earlier this year as a result of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The scholarship will be available for Brooke High students planning to pursue a science or math teaching degree.
It also serves as a fun activity for area families, with a variety of vendors available, prize drawings and activities planned throughout the weekend, including visits from Santa Claus himself.
The people of Follansbee and everyone who attends the festival, as well as members of the planning committee, deserve to be commended for their generosity and for making the yearly event special. And, we look forward to next October, when Follansbee will celebrate Christmas a couple of months early.
