Still having a peachy time

While the circumstances will be different, many of the traditions will remain Saturday as the annual Peach Festival is held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Weirton.

The usual peach short cakes, peach pies, sandwiches and other refreshments will still be available, but, in adjusting for the ongoing COVID pandemic, they will be offered for take-out only, instead of having patrons gather within the church’s social hall.

Organizers recommend residents call ahead to place their orders and make sure the food will be ready when they get there.

In its 57th year, the event has been primarily a fundraiser to support the church’s daily operations and community outreach programs. Over the years, though, it has become a focal point of Weirton’s summer activities, with residents looking forward to a taste of the peach-filled treats and other goodies.

In a time when many groups are canceling their community events, we thank the parishioners of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for finding a way to keep their festival going, and we encourage the community to continue to show their support.
