If you are looking to enjoy a bit of time outside and pick up some of the area's freshest produce, the farmers markets that are located throughout the area are a great place to visit.
The markets might have a different look than they have had in the past as organizers continue to work to meet local and state guidelines, but they continue to offer the freshest fruits, vegetables, baked goods, jams, jellies and pickles, along with interesting crafts. Best of all -- the men and women who participate in the markets are your friends and neighbors, and the items available for purchase are from right in our own back yards.
Here are examples of the markets taking place in the Tri-State Area:
• The Weirton Farmers Market is held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. each Monday in the parking lot of the Goodwill Thrift Store on Penco Road.
• The Farmers Gateway Market continues to be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the parking lot at Eastern Gateway Community College. The event continues to be coordinated by the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District.
• The Brooke County Farmers Market is held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays in the parking lot of the Dollar General store located at the intersection of state Route 2 and Cross Creek Road.
• The Steubenville Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Thursday in the former Grant School parking lot at the intersection of South Fourth and South streets.
Visit one of our farmers markets. By doing so, you will be treating yourself to the freshest produce, spending some time outdoors and supporting local businesses.
