The Tri-State Area's outdoor concert season has arrived, and no matter what particular style of music you want to listen to or performance you are looking for, there will be plenty of events to choose from during the next several months.
Most of the series that have become popular staples across the region were canceled last year because of the restrictions that were put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They are back this year, and got under way last week.
Live music returned to Aracoma Park in Mingo Junction on Monday when Roz and Lynn performed. Shows are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. June 7 and 14 as well as July 19 and 26.
The Weirton Event Center will have to wait another week after its planned concert Friday featuring the Stickers was canceled because of weather, but a full lineup is set for the rest of the season. According to the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which coordinates the series, Friday night concerts will continue through Sept. 10, with a performance by the Vince Villanova Band as well as a Sept. 11 tribute. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the music scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The Historic Fort Steuben Concert Series will open with special Memorial Day performances by the Stereos and the Vogues.
A special Memorial Day recognition is planned for 6:30 p.m. before the music gets under way at 7 p.m. in the Berkman Amphitheater, located at the corner of Third and Market streets in Steubenville. After the opening night, music shifts to Thursday evenings through July 29, when the Marcels will close out the season.
Monthly Monday Music Madness is back in Follansbee at 6 p.m. Memorial Day with a performance by Twice As Nice. The series will continue with performances on June 28, July 26 and Aug. 23.
The Tiltonsville Summer Gazebo Concert Series resumes at 7 p.m. Thursday with a performance by the Ron Retzer Trio. Concerts will follow on Thursdays through Aug. 26.
Wellsburg doesn't have a weekly series, but will offer concerts June 28 through July 3 as part of its week of events leading up to July 4.
Live music will return to the corner of North Third and Market streets in Toronto beginning July 7, when the Honky Tonk Sweethearts and Twice as Nice take the stage at the Gazebo. Wednesday concerts will continue through the summer, with the final event set for Aug. 25. All shows will begin at 7 p.m.
While this is not a complete listing of concerts scheduled for venues across our region during the next several months, it helps to demonstrate that area communities are working hard to provide a way for residents to sit back and be entertained.
Our region's concerts offer shows that accommodate just about every taste in music. From rock to soul, the big band sound to oldies, adult contemporary to country and bluegrass -- there's something for everyone.
It's all possible thanks to groups of dedicated volunteers in each community who work hard to book shows and maintain the venues, as well as the businesses and individuals who sponsor each of the events. Thanks to their support, there's not a charge to attend any of the performances -- but donations always are welcome.
