Continued success for Golden Bears

2 min read

Teamwork and overcoming adversity have been a theme for Oak Glen's softball team this season, and it has been leading to results for the Golden Bears who, last weekend, claimed the OVAC Class 4A title after defeating Edison.

Going into the game as the top seed, the Bears initially took a three-run lead before the Wildcats tied things up in the sixth. The ladies from Hancock County rallied, though, taking the game and the title 6-3.

It has been that way all season, with the team, coached by Sherrie Garner, working together, supporting each other to pick up win after win.

The last year, of course, has been difficult for everyone, with spring sports not taking place in 2020 and faced with a condensed season this year. That combined with the challenges of their school environment, switching between remote and in-person class settings and, in some cases, choosing between activities and sports, has provided increased challenges for all.

To see such continuing success for this Golden Bears team, then, is an even bigger testament to what they can accomplish.

We applaud the efforts of these young ladies, both on and off the diamond, as well as the coaching staff, their parents and teachers for supporting them as they work to reach their goals.
