One of the biggest responsibilities we have as American citizens is participating in our government through the electoral process.
Just about every year we have a chance to let our voices be heard on who will represent us on the local, state or national level, and it's something we need to take seriously.
The residents of New Cumberland have such an opportunity on Tuesday, and we encourage them to participate as voters decide on the city's next mayor, as well as members of city council and the future of a park levy.
In the race for New Cumberland mayor, David Cline will be facing Will White. Current mayor Richard Blackwell has opted to run unopposed for a vacant Ward 1 council seat.
Also featured is the race for one of the city's Second Ward seats, with incumbent Judith Takach Bartley facing challenger Anne Blankenship.
The other two Ward 2 seats have Donald Blankenship and Larry Binkoski each unopposed.
The park levy, if approved, will provide $231,615 between 2024 and 2028 in support of the city's playgrounds and other recreational facilities.
This is a chance for the residents of New Cumberland to have a voice in the future of their community. It is important to exercise this responsibility whenever possible. We hope to see that happen Tuesday.
