Morrisey’s visit appreciated

2 min read

Attorney General Patrick Morrisey was in the area this week, hosting a series of roundtables and other events in an effort to hear directly from constituents in the Northern Panhandle about their experiences and needs, especially as they relate to a post-COVID world.

Among those events was a business roundtable in Weirton Wednesday night, where he met with local business owners to discuss the issues they are seeing as they get their operations back to their pre-pandemic levels.

In Wheeling, the attorney general heard several concerns focused on substance abuse and its effects on the state and its people.

It is important for state officials, especially those based in Charleston, to get out to other parts of the state and meet face-to-face with residents. Emails and phone calls can be glossed over, but the message is more clear when one has an opportunity to look an elected official in the eye.

While we understand the virus made travel difficult for much of the last year, restrictions have eased significantly and there is little stopping officials from making time to meet with the people of this state to hear what is on their minds.

We appreciate Morrisey taking the time to come to the Northern Panhandle, and encourage others, including our legislators, and even the governor, to find a way to organize similar events.

West Virginia is facing growing challenges as a result of the events of the last year. It is only through clear communication and working together that we can find a way forward.
