What started as a fundraiser two years ago for a local high school class is turning into one of the area's most unique events, and one the community has been anticipating for a return.
The Weirton Food Truck Festival is set for this Saturday, beginning at noon, at the Weirton Event Center.
This year's event is hosted by the parents of the Weir High School Class of 2022, handed down from the Class of 2020 parents which started the festival as a way to give a boost to the students. We're glad to see it continue, and are sure it will keep going on for years to come as a way to benefit each succeeding class.
Saturday's Food Truck Festival is set to feature 15 food trucks and trailers, with everything from barbecue and hot dogs to Mexican, African and Greek cuisine, fish, fries and ice cream. There also will be live entertainment, a variety of vendors, face painting and activities for the kids.
The initial offering of this festival was organized with the hope of an afternoon with a few food trucks. It ended up attracting thousands of visitors throughout the day, each tasting the offerings of more than a dozen trucks. We believe this year will be just as successful, and encourage our residents from throughout the Ohio Valley to pay a visit to the Weirton Event Center to check out this wonderful event and support our local students.
