Show support for United Way with annual golf classic

2 min read

One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Weirton United Way is just around the corner, and we encourage those who are able to show their support.

This will be the 40th year for the Weirton United Way Golf Classic, which has always received amazing support from the community. We hope this year is no different.

Area golfers will be hitting the greens and fairways of Williams Country Club Monday morning for the tournament, which traditionally has brought in a significant amount toward the United Way's yearly campaign goal.

Support comes from area businesses and residents alike, through participation and sponsorships including this year's platinum sponsors Reynolds Services Inc. and the Frontier Group of Companies.

There's still time to step forward and lend a hand, through sponsorships or entering a team. Donations toward the campaign, in general, also always are appreciated.

Monday will be a great day filled with a nice game of golf, a chance for prizes, networking with others from the community and, most importantly, assisting an organization which works to help thousands in our area through its contributions to more than a dozen area agencies.

Organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Weirton, Hancock County Sheltered Workshop, Salvation Army, Community Bread Basket and the Mary H. Weir Public Library are among the member agencies which rely on the funding from the United Way campaign to operate many of their services, whether it be providing food, clothing or other assistance to those in need, operating literacy programs, making after-school programs available for area youth and much more.

We urge the community to show its support for this and other Weirton United Way events throughout the year.
