The Tri-State Area's outdoor concert season has arrived, and no matter what particular style of music you want to listen to or performance you are looking for, there will be plenty of events to choose from during the next several months.
The Weirton Event Center will return to life Friday, when the 2023 concert series opens with a performance by Let's Groove Tonight, an Earth, Wind and Fire tribute band. According to the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which coordinates the series, Friday night concerts will continue through Aug. 4, with a performance by Jersey, a Bruce Springsteen cover band, and will include a July 1 appearance by the Wheeling Symphony. Gates open at 6 p.m., with the music scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The Historic Fort Steuben Concert Series will open with a special Monday holiday performance by Shades of Blue. A Memorial Day recognition is planned before the music gets under way at 7 p.m. in the Berkman Amphitheater, located at the corner of Third and Market streets in Steubenville. After opening night, music shifts to Thursday evenings through Aug. 3, when the Travelin' Witkowskis and New Pure Gold will close out the season. There will be a special Fourth of July presentation featuring Roz and Lynn, the Ron Retzer Trio and Eli and the Mojo Kings, which will lead into the city's annual fireworks display.
Monthly Monday Music Madness is back in Follansbee at 6 p.m. Memorial Day with a performance by Cross Creek the Band. The series will continue with performances on June 26, July 31 and Aug. 28.
The Tiltonsville Summer Gazebo Concert Series resumes at 7 p.m. June 1 with a performance by the Ron Retzer Trio. Concerts will follow on Thursdays through Aug. 31.
Newell's Laurel Hollow Park Summer Concerts open at 6 p.m. June 25 with Chelsea Householder and continue July 8 and Aug. 12. Chester's City Park, meanwhile, will host a concert series beginning at 7 p.m. June 13 when 40 Plus takes the stage. Other shows are set for June 27, July 11, July 25, Aug. 8 and Aug. 22.
Live music will return to the corner of North Third and Market streets in Toronto beginning July 1, when Rich Coburn and Roz and Lynn perform beginning at 8 p.m. at the Gazebo. After that, the shows switch to a 7 p.m. start on Wednesdays starting July 5 when the Russell Sisters and Two Friends Trio take the stage. Shows will run each week through Aug. 30.
The Mount Pleasant Summer Concert Series will open at 6:30 p.m. June 1 with a performance by Jim Berze and continue on the first Thursday of each month through Sept. 7.
And, the inaugural concert season at The Mark amphitheater at Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz will open June 1 with a special performance by Neal McCoy. Concerts at the facility are scheduled to run through Sept. 20.
While this is not a complete listing of concerts scheduled across our region during the next several months, it helps to demonstrate that area communities are working hard to provide a way for residents to gather with their friends and neighbors and enjoy the entertainment.
Our region's concerts offer shows that accommodate just about every taste in music. From rock to soul, the big band sound to oldies, adult contemporary to country and bluegrass, to tribute bands covering many artists -- there's something for everyone.
It's all possible thanks to groups of dedicated volunteers in each community who work hard to book shows and maintain the venues, as well as the businesses and individuals who sponsor each of the events. Thanks to their support, there's not a charge to attend any of the performances -- but donations always are welcome.
