Take some of the region's freshest produce and throw in an opportunity for area residents to enjoy a pleasant day with family and friends, and you have the perfect recipe for local farmers markets.
Held at many locations throughout the Tri-State Area, the markets offer a chance to buy fresh fruits and vegetables and to support the men and women who grow them. You'll also find a variety of baked goods; jams, jellies and pickles; and crafts from local organizations, vendors and crafters.
Here's a sampling of markets that are being held across the region:
• The Steubenville Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday at the former Grant School property at the corner of Fourth and South streets.
• The Jefferson County Farmers Market, coordinated by the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, is open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday through September in the parking lot at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main St. in Wintersville.
• The Brooke County Farmers Market is held from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. each Wednesday in the lot at the Dollar General store at the intersection of State Route 2 and Cross Creek Road.
