The calendar might show that Christmas is still more than two months away, but that won't keep Follansbee Municipal Park from coming alive with the spirit of the holiday season this weekend.
And it's all thanks to the annual Christmas in the Park celebration.
Scheduled to be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, the park will be adorned with Christmas lights and other decorations, and Christmas music covering many different eras will be played. More than 75 vendors are expected to be on hand to sell crafts, food and other holiday-themed items.
And, of course, Santa Claus will visit at 1 p.m. each day.
Once again, Nelson's Fine Art and Gifts in Steubenville will have several of the life-size figures from the Steubenville Nutcracker Village on display. Support for the event, which has been been a staple of the fall season for the past couple of decades, is being provided by Trinity Health System.
While the festival is a fun way to spend a fall weekend, co-chairs Bill Secrist and Stacey Williams remind area residents that it helps to raise money to help others, including the Follansbee R.E.A.C.H. Program and local children with special medical needs. It's all in keeping with the mission of the festival when it was created by Secrist and former city Councilwoman Kathy Santoro -- to have an event that gives back to the community.
Providing an opportunity to get into the holiday spirit and offering the chance to enjoy a fall afternoon, all while raising money that will improve the lives of area residents -- it's a formula that has led to a successful weekend that continues to be a must-attend event for Tri-State Area residents.
