Borchers providing stability at West Liberty University

2 min read

It seems as if West Liberty University has been in a state of constant disruption over the past decade. From a president that used a university employee for his private-side film projects to another president that plagiarized speeches and alleged those on campus were after him because of his race, the hilltop campus has been mired in controversy, faculty senate votes of no confidence and more.

That period of turmoil appears to be at an end.

Since July, President Tim Borchers and his wife, Susanne Williams, have been providing the type of steady and stable leadership West Liberty University has been seeking for years. Borchers, following a period when the university administration actively disengaged from the greater Wheeling community, has seemingly been everywhere these past few months, meeting folks and talking about all the good things that are happening at the university. He and his wife have hosted more than a dozen events at the president's residence, welcoming students unable to get home over Thanksgiving and re-establishing relationships with alumni. The couple also recently hosted a small group of local business and community leaders with a focus on how West Liberty University can be a bigger player in the region as it undergoes a strategic planning period.

President Borchers and Ms. Williams have provided the calm and steady leadership that an institution such as West Liberty -- one that understands how to best serve its students -- clearly needed. As December 2023 graduates receive their diplomas on Saturday, here's to an institution that appears to be in good hands.
