It is always worthwhile to recongize the efforts of those who put themselves forward in an effort to shape the success of a community.
The Weirton Hall of Fame recently announced the 12 individuals set to become part of the 2024 induction class, who will be honored with a service Aug. 17 at the Millsop Community Center.
We offer our congratulations to those selected, and hope they serve as an example for current and future generations of Weirton residents.
Of the 20 nominees, the city's hall of fame committee chose the following for the Class of 2024: Agness Jean (Lanaghan) Monezis and Mary Hannah Finton in the category of philanthropy; James George Pauchnik and George E. Ash Sr. in the category of public service; Michael Phillip Ceran and Raymond G. Seifert in the category of music and fine arts; Brenda Mull and George Kondik in the category of business, industry and professions; Deborah (Deb) Witkowski and Robert Francis Maslowski in the category of education and religion; and David Shuler and George B. Vargo in the category of sports and athletics.
They have taken different paths in their contributions and leadership. They are long-time business owners, elected officials, civic leaders, coaches, educators, entertainers, leaders of faith and figureheads of our community.
The Weirton Hall of Fame reminds us of the importance of honoring those who step forward in an effort to help our communities thrive.
The Weirton area has seen many ups and downs in its history, but there has always been that constant of people who give of themselves to make their city better.
From those involved in the city's founding to its long list of educators and coaches, civic volunteers, business owners and more, they have found a way to contribute, while inspiring others to do the same.
We, again, offer our congratulations to this year's class of inductees and look forward to the day you are officially recognized for your accomplishments.
