Whether you are looking to purchase the freshest produce or freshly baked goods, or maybe just trying to find a place to spend a few hours with your family, friends and neighbors, the region's farmers markets provide a great opportunity.
Markets throughout the Tri-State Area offer the chance to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables and enjoy the nutritional benefits that come with them while supporting the men and women who grow them across the region. You'll also find a wide variety of vendors selling homemade jams and jellies, baked goods, fudge and locally produced honey, as well as crafters who feature a wide range of locally made items.
There are many markets held each week at several locations in our area, as a sampling shows:
• The Steubenville Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday through the first week in November at the former Grant School property at the corner of Fourth and South streets.
• The Farmers Gateway Market, coordinated by the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, is open from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Oct. 2 in the parking lot at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 852 Main St. in Wintersville.
• The Brooke County Farmers Market is held from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. each Wednesday in the lot at the Dollar General store at the intersection of state Route 2 and Cross Creek Road (Bruin Drive.)
