Coming together over Sunday Dinner

2 min read

It is always nice to see someone make an effort to make our communities more welcoming.

The first installment of Sunday Dinner took place at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton this week, and we hope this is a program which will grow and last for years to come.

It's a new ministry, started by the Rev. Matthew Moore, with a single goal in mind - to bring people together while sharing a meal.

It's not an effort to raise money or to spread a particular message. It's just to provide a meal, and if you would like to eat - no matter your background - you can stop by and get some food, sit with others from the community, and spend some time together.

Sunday's inaugural meal included pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, pasta salad and dessert. The plan is to provide Sunday Dinner once each month, each time featuring a new theme and menu.

And, based on the annual Greek Festival and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner made by members of All Saints, you know the food will be good.

It's all about hospitality and bringing the community together - uniting, if you will. The City of Weirton's motto is "Success in Unity," and, as such, we are truly our best when we come together, whether it's for a common cause, to help out our neighbors, or just to sit down for a meal and get to know each other better.

We thank the Rev. Moore and the church for making this all possible.
