Many of our communities have halls of fame, established to recognize the contributions of generations of residents who have sought to better their hometowns.
One such hall of fame recently announced their 2025 inductees, and we take this time to offer our congratulations.
The Weirton Hall of Fame was established by Weirton Council in 2008 to honor "outstanding accomplishments" in six categories: Business, Industry and Professions; Education and Religion; Music and Fine Arts; Philanthropy; Public Service; and Sports and Athletics.
A committee, comprised of volunteers, annually seek nominees to include in the rolls of previous classes. Previous inductees have included long-time educators and coaches, civil servants, business owners, community organizers, and more. They are names many of us have heard or known for much of our lives for their willingness to give of themselves for the benefit of others.
This year's class is no different.
Members of the Weirton Hall of Fame Class of 2025 are Daniel L. McCune in the category of Philanthropy; Gabriel (Gabe) Arlia for Public Service; Dr. Jasbir Makar and Mark Glyptis for Business, Industry and Professions; Pamela J. Makricosta and Patti Barnabei in Education and Religion; and Robert J. Busick and David H. Reitter for Sports and Athletics.
As part of the induction, to be held later this year, each individual will receive a commemorative medallion, a personalized plaque, and their name will be memorialized on the Hall of Fame wall located in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center.
We thank each member of this year's induction class for their service, and, again, offer them our congratulations.
