The summer concert season is upon us

3 min read

No matter what style you like to listen to or your preference for performance, there will be plenty of opportunities to enjoy live music in beautiful outdoor settings across the Tri-State Area during the next several months.

The Brooke County Area Chamber of Commerce helped to kick things off on Memorial Day with the launch of this year's Monthly Monday Music Madness and a performance by Twice As Nice at Follansbee Park. Shows will continue June 16, June 30, July 14, July 28, Aug. 11, and Aug. 25, alternating between Follansbee Park and a spot near the log cabin in Wellsburg.

The Historic Fort Steuben Concert Series will return for its 19th season at 7 p.m. Thursday when Linden and Melvin, along with Into The Blue, an Electric Light Orchestra tribute, takes the stage at Berkman Amphitheater. Concerts are scheduled each Thursday through July 31, and includes a June 23 appearance by the United States Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors.

The Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau is switching things up for this year's summer concert season in Weirton. Instead of presenting weekly concerts at the Weirton Event Center, it is launching a Second Saturdays series, a monthly all-day festival to include farmers and artisan markets, food trucks, contests, and live musical performances. The first will take place June 14 with the Country Roads Kickoff featuring Bill Crawford, Nathan King, and the Bennett Hall Band. The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will be making its return July 5 as part of Independence Day festivities.

Toronto's Concerts at the Gazebo will return July 2 with Honky Tonk Sweethearts and DeJa Vu. The series, organized by Inspire Toronto, includes shows July 9, 16, 23, and 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20, and 27.

The Newell Community Improvement Coalition presents the Laurel Hollow Park concerts, with Full Circle preforming June 14, and other shows set for July 12, July 26, and Aug. 10. The Newell Fun Day will be Aug. 2, with the Newell Water Parade, food trucks and more.

Chester concerts begin June 10 with the Chillbillyz, and other concerts at Chester City Park on June 24, July 8, July 22, Aug. 5 and Aug. 19.

While this is not a complete listing of concerts scheduled for venues across our region during the next several months, it helps to demonstrate that area communities are working hard to provide a way for residents to sit back and be entertained.

Our region's concerts offer shows that accommodate just about every taste in music. From rock to soul, the big band sound to oldies, adult contemporary to country and bluegrass, to tribute bands -- there's something for everyone.

It's all possible thanks to groups of dedicated volunteers in each community who work hard to book shows and maintain the venues, as well as the businesses and individuals who sponsor each of the events. Thanks to their support, there's not a charge to attend any of the performances -- but donations always are welcome.

We hope you'll take advantage of the opportunity to sit back, relax and spend a late spring or summer afternoon or evening enjoying music live -- the way it was meant to be heard.
