Enjoying the fun of the Brooke County Fair
County fairs offer something for just about everyone.
And, if you are in need of another reminder of that, you need look no farther than Brooke Hills Park in Wellsburg.
That’s where the Brooke County Fair will be held.
Set to run today through Sunday, the annual event will feature a wide variety of food, games and entertainment.
The weekend will include presentations of Native American culture and lumberjack skills, drag races for all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes and plenty of music. Agriculture will play a part, with contests built around home-grown produce and home-made baked goods, jams, jellies and honey.
The annual tug-of-war competitions between students from the county’s primary and intermediate schools will be a part of the activities, as will a barnyard zoo and a children’s pedal pull tractor competition.
Twins and triplets will have a chance to shine at their own competition, and a meet-the-breed obedience demonstration will be held by members of the Fort Steuben Kennel Club.
Mud volleyball, featuring students from Brooke High and Middle schools, will return, children will have the chance to participate in a Mr. Potato Head contest and the fair’s Queen of Queens will be selected.
Farming and related topics will be featured, and members of the county’s 4-H clubs will have their projects on display. There also will be a pet show for children.
And it all runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, 10 a.m to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 today and $10 Saturday and Sunday, with the cost including all of the carnival rides.
The Brooke County Fair is a great community event, one that has continued to grow and improve since it was revived in 2002. It remains an activity that deserves the support not only of residents from the Northern Panhandle, but of those who live in all parts of the Tri-State Area.
