Donald Trump is shameful
To the Editor,
A few weeks ago, presidential author Bob Woodward released excerpts from his tapes of conversations with President Donald Trump that he made for his book. Trump related to Woodward early February that the novel Coronavirus was deadly and dangerous. Trump said, “I always wanted to play it down. Because I don’t want to create panic.” The panic that he most cared about was the stock market plunging so as to not hurt his re-election.
Trump lied to the American people for weeks calling the seriousness of the Coronavirus “a hoax made up by Democrats to hurt him politically.” He uses any opportunity to attack and disparage Democrats. Most importantly, he lied about the virus for weeks when he knew it was serious.
With proper warning, medical personnel could have started ordering Personal Protective Equipment. Later spring, many were still without the equipment they needed; therefore, hundreds of medical personnel lost their lives to COVID-19. Also our country could have initiated safety procedures early as social distancing and mask wearing. We had needless loss of lives due to Trump’s lies. We have the highest death toll of all the countries in the world! In this devastating situation, Trump has been a shameful leader as president. After I heard Trump’s comments from the tape, I felt extensive sorrow.
Trump has not set an example for safety measures of mask wearing, only seen in a mask a few times. He has shown disregard for safety guidelines recommended by medical experts by holding large rallies with thousands of people where there is no social distancing and few wearing masks. He ignores safety guidelines when the USA is trying to contain the spread of virus. He doesn’t like to follow rules. Those rallies may be superspreaders. Trump is shameful.
The Republican National Convention acceptance speech by Trump was held at the White House lawn, having an audience of about 1,500 people. When they were shown, they were seat to seat, no social distancing and mostly everyone without masks. Trump was a shameful example during a pandemic.
In addition, Trump holding his Convention Speech at the White House has been reported as an ethics violation. Government buildings or property are not supposed to be used for the promotion of political purposes. There were other ethics violations regarding other RNC speeches and events. Trump doesn’t follow rules. And his Convention Speech was full of lies. It has been reported that Trump has told over 20,000 lies since becoming president.
Recently, it was reported that during a trip to France in 2018, commemorating the end of World War 1, Trump didn’t want to visit a cemetery where our military members were buried. He referred to those who died as “suckers and losers.” He is not worthy to be president.
At the Presidential Debate, Trump was obnoxious, nasty, interrupting Joe Biden constantly and acting like a jerk and a bully! Some news commentators said it was the worst debate in US history.
Vote for Joe Biden.
