To the Editor,
As a member of the Weir High Class of 1971 reunion committee, I wonder if those fellow classmates realize how much time and effort is spent in organizing a class reunion.
It is 2021 -- We of the class of 1971 have been out of school for "50" years. Wow! Our reunion is set for July 3 at Undo's Holiday Inn on Three Springs Drive. We have mailed out about 300 invitations all around the United States. We had one of the biggest classes Weir High ever graduated. So far, I think 78 of our fellow students have already passed from this life. Some were very young, some in the last month or two. We don't know what life has to give us.
Peggy Baker Huyghe has always organized a very special night. She takes care of all the details of food, entertainment, location and we all owe her a huge round of applause! It surprised me when I was typing the labels for mailing out the letters of how many of us still live in Weirton and have never attended a reunion. Some think "I didn't like this one or that one when I was in school, why should I go see them 50 years later?" But for that one or two persons you did not like, think of how many you did. Would it be such a burden to attend a nice dinner, listen to the band play, and reminisce with those that you hung around with in school?
We have far more means of tracking down people than we did even 15 years ago, but there are always those few that we cannot find. Those people are: Andy Guz, Pam Moody Linke, Sheila Hurst Coburn, Faith Clark Nicholes, Lucile DiGiacomo Russell, Barbara Tingler Hatch, Barbara Hinerman Vincent, William Wilharm, Debbie Kruger Dorich, Timothy Rosiak, Donnie Lettieri, Susan Gardner Brauer, Elmer Christman, Edward Clifford and Steve Apesos.
If you have not gotten the flyer yet, please contact Peggy at 304-670-4537.
The cost of the evening will be $45.00 per person. Others have worked in making up our Memory Board of those who have gone before us, are collecting trivia information from the year of 1971, will decorate the hall, Peggy has a photo booth where you can create memories of this night, a deejay, Newbrough Photography will be there to take our class picture. All you have to do is show up! The night promises to be fun! It can be much better if you, as a member of our class would decide to come. Please get your reservations in as soon as possible. Again, it is $45 per person and you can mail it to Peggy Huyghe at 1208 Hanlin Way Weirton, WV, 26062. Dress is casual, Undo's always has great food!
We hope to see many of you there!
