Weirton Lions Club recently initiated its most recent community project -- Flags for Heroes -- a display of American Flags sponsored by individuals from the community and honoring both active military and those veterans, both current and deceased -- who have given of themselves to protect our freedoms.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank individuals outside of our club who assisted us with this project. It took many hands to plant the flags and prepare the display.
Thank you, American Legion Post 10 for partnering with the Lions and providing the site for the display. Thanks to the following individuals who gave us the much needed hands to complete the display -- Wayne Bonovich and his staff at Weirton Rental Center; Paul Rafacz; Fred Flati; Mindy Howell and Craig Howell; and JoAnn Bracken.
The flags will be displayed again for the Fourth of July, the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and Veterans Day at the Honor Roll Memorial in front of Wal-Mart in Weirton.
