To the Editor,
Many years ago the Weirton Steel Corporation gifted The Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce with the community Christmas Lights that they used to decorate and illuminate the city for the holidays. We are honored to be able to carry on the tradition of the Christmas Lights display that they started for everyone to enjoy each Christmas season. The repair and installation of the Christmas lights has always been contributed to by the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club and the Chamber of Commerce volunteers and they are the reason the lights are so beautiful this year.
Thank you to the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club, Chamber Special Projects Committee volunteers, and the City of Weirton employee volunteers for the repair and upkeep of the lights. Thank you to the City of Weirton Public Works employees and city electrician, Scott Marshall for the putting them up and taking them down every year. It is greatly appreciated. Thank you to Cleveland Cliffs for allowing us to store and work on the lights at one of their facilities. Thank you to First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union and the Holiday Inn Weirton-Steubenville for permission to use the field. Thank you to Weirton City Council for their monetary donation this year. This display has needed a major facelift for the last several years so the timing was perfect.
Individuals who volunteered their time include Joyia Lytle, Brandon Palmeri, Chris Orris, Jessica Kelley, Tiffany Gale, Nick Travis, Diana Smoljanovich, Jamie Yoklic, Rebecca Vitari, Sarah Farran, Marleigh O'Brien, Mindy Howell, Joe Stankiewicz, Jonathan Beynon, Rich Young, Ron Baker, Jenny Anderson, Henry Anderson, Joann Burnetta, Ryan Six, Stephanie O'Brien and myself.
It took numerous days and hours to make this happen. But the brilliance you now see when you look at the display made it all worthwhile. The Chamber recognizes this as an on-going project that can only be accomplished by working together. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL for your dedication and support throughout the years.
