Offended by political ads

2 min read

To the Editor,

Over the past few months, we all have seen the political ads aimed at 'we the people' to contact Senator Joe Manchin to either support or not support President Biden's Build Back Better Agenda. Some ads use spokespersons that are intended to reflect West Virginia values with the sponsor cited at the end of the ads. Those sponsored by BlueGreen Alliance (BGA) ask Senator Manchin support jobs, child care, etc. related to President Biden's Agenda. BGA uses various union officials, such as, representatives from the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), SEIU, and the USW.

According to the BGA website, one of their central themes is "Solidarity for Climate Action." Conveniently, these political ads fail to mention this. In other words, BGA is asking 'we the people' to blindly promote their ideology.

Each of these unions, AFT-SEIU-USW, have members on the BGA Board of Directors. The President of the AFT – Randi Weingarten is one of Board members. Mrs. Weingarten has promoted masking children in schools, keeping children in an online school environment, and the adoption of the controversial subject matter in schools. Now, we find that she and the AFT are in the political environment promoting a Climate Action Agenda. It is unclear how a Climate Action agenda feathers into the education of our children. Union members will have to understand AFT money uses.

Whether or not someone supports the Climate Change methodology, the tact being used in the BGA ads is deceptive. More importantly, I am offended that BGA would think that a West Virginian would promote an ideology just because these unfamiliar people said that I should.
