Show support for McKinley

2 min read

To the Editor,

Recently, candidate Mooney has called Congressman David McKinley a liar, although he has never stated what the Congressman lied about. Think about that! If anyone has lied during this campaign, it is Mooney.

He has called Congressman McKinley a RINO. Congressman McKinley has been a life-long "West Virginia" Republican who has always espoused the basic Republican platforms. He has called Congressman McKinly a liberal. Mooney and anyone who knows Congressman McKinley knows this is false. Under any other circumstances to call Congressman McKinley a liberal would be laughable.

Mooney attacks Congressman McKinley on the infrastructure bill that will bring $6 billion in funds to West Virginia for roads, bridges, broadband, and other infrastructure projects. I cannot believe any West Virginia citizens wouldn't be ecstatic that West Virginia will be receiving these funds that will create jobs and improve our quality of life.

When he criticizes Congressman McKinley for his vote on the infrastructure bill, he must be criticizing West Virginia Senators Capito and Manchin, who not only voted for the infrastructure bill, but were instrumental in the creation of this legislation which they knew would be beneficial to the people of West Virginia.

All of the above false statements made by Mooney shouldn't be a surprise considering that he is now, for the second time, being investigated for ethics violations.

As an elected official for 28 years - a Weirton city councilman for four years, and mayor of the City of Weirton for eight years, which were bipartisan positions, and 16 years as a Democratic senator for the First District - I have interacted with Congressman McKinley numerous times. There were many times when we had different political views. He was always respectful, forthright, and honest with me. I always recognized that his political positions were based on what he thought were best for West Virginia.

For the reasons mentioned above, and now that I am an Independent registered voter, I will be voting for Congressman McKinley and encourage Republicans and Independent voters to vote for David McKinley for Congressman of the Second Congressional District.
