This week marked the passing of Robert "Moe" Dadasovich. Moe was a fixture in the Weirton community for over 70 years, never missing a community gathering or sporting event. So many in the community considered Moe a friend, providing him rides or just a friendly face. Moe's love for sports included him being one of the last true Pirates fans, eternally hopeful for one more pennant. He also had a large "family," especially Brad and Virginia Battista, who, for decades, cared for Moe, making certain he had whatever he needed until his passing this week.
For anyone who spent any time with Moe, it was impossible to come away without a smile. His soft voice and boyish smile would warm the hardest of hearts and make everything seem just a little better, if just for that moment. Although the Weirton community cared for Moe for decades, it was really Moe who cared for all of us. His mischievous grin almost conveyed a sense that Moe knew something that we all didn't. Moe provided us with a glimpse of the people we all want to be - approaching every day with love and kindness in his heart.
His gentle spirit was a gift, not just to his family, but to anyone who had the blessing of his friendship. Many times we speak of trying to find our "better angels" in search of God's grace. For his friends and so many in the Weirton community, Moe was that better angel.
While Moe's passing ends an era in Weirton, his spirit will live on in everyone he touched. So in the words that our friend Moe would always say whenever he departed our company – "See you later."
