Haworth Memorial Art Exhibit celebrates legacy

2 min read

To the Editor,

Our Upper Ohio Valley is rich with artistic talent due to the efforts of many local teachers.

It was in 2009 when my father, Dr. Ray Greco, and the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center

decided to highlight one of our area's great teachers-Mr. J. Robert Haworth- who taught at Weir High School

from 1932 to 1969. This is the 14th year that the Museum has been honoring his very talented students.

This year's honorees are Irene Tsapis and the late Timothy Midget. Irene Tsapis is a retired Physical

Therapist who graduated from Weir High School in 1952. Timothy Midget, a 1968 graduate, went on to

study commercial Art at West Liberty. In addition to this year's featured artists, other Haworth students,

local artists, and current area art students will have their art on display.

The Haworth Memorial Art Exhibit is scheduled on Saturday, October 22 from 11 am to 4 pm and on Sunday,

October 23 from 1 - 4 pm. This is a family-centered event that is free and open to the public. Refreshments

will be served both days. The Museum is located at 3149 Main Street.

The Weirton Area Museum & Cultural Center continues to share Mr. Haworth's legacy and that of his students.

The Museum continues to "Preserve the past for future generations!
