The IRA bill helps families

2 min read

To the Editor,

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has already brought relief to families in West Virginia. The act addresses multiple issues that have needed attention and had been put on the back burner for far too long. These issues are fighting climate change, a new corporate minimum tax to ensure big businesses pay their share and creating good-paying clean energy jobs.

Fighting to stop the current climate crisis in a coal state used to seem like an out-of-reach goal, and thanks to the IRA, it is not only possible, it has already begun. Big corporations are now encouraged to switch to cleaner energy thanks to the production tax credits created in the IRA. West Virginia coal companies can start making the switch without fear of going under. And we can create opportunities for new jobs in the Mountain State.

We are already seeing the positive impacts from the passing of the IRA with many economic development announcements in West Virginia in the last month.

The transition to clean energy not only helps the environment, but it creates better opportunities for work. I am grateful for Senator Joe Manchin for his influence in passing this bill. I hope the quest for better living for families in West Virginia continues to progress.
