To the Editor,
As a community, we have endured 100-plus years of air, ground and water pollution. We tolerated this pollution because the industry that created it also created thousands of jobs that built our homes, made our area economically sound and enabled us to send our children to college.
We also have endured the loss of thousands of jobs as the industry pursued greener pastures that did not require pollution controls, basically, to where it was cheaper to pollute some other part of the world. The addition of a brand new source of air, ground and water pollution, that will provide minimal economic impact and maximum environmental damage is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer -- it feels so good when you stop.
As a community it is time to say stop
