Last week a Weir High student athlete accomplished a feat that has not been duplicated in nearly 60 years. "G" Cross, a junior basketball player, scored 45 points in a victory over Harrison Central High School. 45 points is the third highest individual point total by a Weir High student athlete since the great Fritz Williams scored 55 against East Liverpool and 46 points against Toronto.
If you are not aware of "G" Cross' accomplishment, you are probably not alone. Instead of celebrating it in the press, it was relegated to a brief mention on page two of the Weirton Daily Times sports section. Student athletes represent the school, work hard and sacrifice a lot. What is our hometown newspaper, Weir High administration and athletic department doing to celebrate and recognize student accomplishments.
