Free concert for Thanksgiving

2 min read

To the Editor,

As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, let us remember that this holiday is about more than just eating turkey and watching football.

It's a time to reflect on our blessings and show gratitude for all the good things in our lives.

But it's also a time to think about those who are less fortunate and make an effort to help them. As Christians, we are called to love our neighbors as ourselves and meet the needs of those around us. One way we can do this is by volunteering at a local food bank or shelter, donating money or goods to organizations that serve the needy, or simply reaching out with kindness and compassion.

The Bible teaches us many important lessons about caring for others. In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus says that when we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome strangers, visit prisoners and care for the sick we are actually doing these things unto him: Matthew 25:35-36: "For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me."

I am a part of a local Christian music band called Led By Mercy. We are hosting a free Thanksgiving benefit concert at Free Gift Baptist Church at 2416 Pennsylvania Ave. in Weirton at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The concert will feature our original Christian music, hymns, and the music of the leading Christian artists. We will spend the evening

thanking God for his many blessings. This is a free benefit concert, so we encourage you to consider bringing a non-perishable food item that we will distribute to the needy for Thanksgiving and beyond.

Let us use this Thanksgiving as an opportunity not only be thankful for what we have but also put into practice these teachings by actively helping someone else.
