Appreciative of honor

1 min read

To the Editor,

Please permit me to take this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to all those people who were instrumental in giving me the highest honor I've received.

Hancock County Schools Superintendent Dan Enich, right before the Weir-Madonna high schools' latest basketball matchup, announced to those in the bleachers that he was citing me with one of his "Game Changers" awards. I was a bit stunned.

However, what he said next was something I never imagined: Weir High School's new girls' softball field would be named after me. As a retired teacher/coach from Weir High, I never expected such a wonderful legacy.

I had the good fortune to coach talented women athletes at a time when girls' sports often were overlooked. Obviously, this has changed, and Hancock County Schools is a shining example. I am so happy my name has been attached to Weir High School's commitment to women in sports. My heartfelt thanks to all.
