To the Editor,
Back in September of last year, I wrote about having tumors in my body. One in my heart, the other in my colon. This was a big scare to me. As I was checked with procedures called colonoscopy, and TEE, the tumors were found.
The TEE system involved inserting a mini camera down your throat, then exploring any formalities in the explored area. The series was on a positive note...with the tumor so small that it was almost gone. Yay for me.
Then there was the colonoscopy. Sedated, and put to sleep, the cameras went inside my colon to find a white sac inside my colon. Hmmm... interesting.
So after a conversation with the specialist, my wife and I decided to have surgery in Pittsburgh. Three days after Christmas. And no partridge in a pear tree.
The 28th was my surgery. After waking up, my wife was in my patient room. Lines of fluids going in me. Drains coming out of me. I felt like I was Frankenstein coming back to life. Oh, I didn't mention that drain tubes were put in to me to drain off some infection. Oh what fun.
After wearing Depends and visiting Mister John on a continuous basis daily, the healing of my body started slowly.
I had to learn how to eat slowly. From liquids to solid foods, the new way of eating filled me up faster. No more eating foods like a steam shovel.
With the prayers and hopes of all who knew me, this has helped me along. And with the grace of God... I am now cancer free. Amazing. And with that white tumor taken out of my colon, I told my Doctor I named him Herman. Yes, my dry humor once again.
