Democracy or ochlocracy

3 min read

To the Editor,

What form of government do we have today? A loud voice resonates across the United States: "A democracy, of course." The voice is echoed throughout the entire media with but minor exception. It comes from not only the media but from universities and from citizens walking the streets, especially in large cities. Forget the fact the founders created a constitutional republic.

Ochlocracy, or mob rule, can be the terminal result of a democracy in which fraud and lawlessness ultimately prevail. But is this possible in our land where democracy appears to be firmly entrenched where everyone has a voice? All and sundry have some say, regardless of whether one contributes to the nation's well-being.

A few facts are examined to determine if our democracy is sustainable.

Joe Biden garnered 81 million votes in the 2020 election. Roosting in his basement he didn't even hit the campaign trail. But today we are paying the price, not only for our disgraceful withdrawal from Afghanistan and crime in the big cities, but also from inflation that is up at least 20 percent overall since Trump left office. Inflation is considerably more for staples such as gasoline and most necessities that affect the living cost for the everyday wage earner.

Oh, but the inflation rate now is only 3 percent, Biden and his chorus of sycophants chirp. Look, pal, that low rate steadily gets tacked on to the existing 20 percent. And right now that 23 percent ain't gonna go away if the inimical Bidenesque economic policies are sustained. Keep those pipelines shutdown and no more drilling for natural gas and oil. But just keep bragging, Joe, about low inflation. Only when the pipelines are opened and all related natural resources are reasonably utilized can we expect to see a meaningful lowering of inflation, and hence, prices. All else is pure politics.

Let's hope common sense is restored that we may see reduced inflation. But that prospect presently looks dismal. Adding to the cost is the massive southern border crossings by many of suspect origin. Ask yourself, buddy, who is paying for their upkeep. Many if not most are not working -- the inhabitants not only of tent cities, but some living a lavish life style after being put up in fancy hotels in New York city. Is Uncle Joe paying for this? No, buddy. You are.

The need for proof of citizenship and legitimate voter registration is being assailed by the left. Let the whole world vote. It might not be a bad time to examine the creds of the left -- what we've basically got now is one half of the working population paying for an idled 50 percent. That's what's called a tipping point.

In my 89 years on this planet, this old West Virginia hillbilly has witnessed a lot of folly, but what I'm seeing today takes first prize. And at the rate we're going it can only get worse.

Goodbye democracy. Welcome ochlocracy.
