Democracy or dictatorship?

To the Editor,

There is no situation that former President Donald Trump won’t use to discredit the Biden/Harris administration to provoke his followers against the Democrats. He’s a pathological liar. In the tragic circumstances of Hurricane Helene, Trump made up lies about the current administration. He was with the Rev. Franklin Graham and the Samaritans help group in Georgia. He announced that President Biden never contacted Gov. Brian Kemp, like implying Biden didn’t care about helping. And he said that Vice President Kamala Harris was out campaigning and trying to make money.

I watch “NBC Nightly News,” local stations and other news everyday. Kemp went on TV for a public announcement that Biden called him right away. He was not there to take the call and he called Biden back. Biden offered to help in any way they needed help. Harris canceled her events out West and flew back to Washington immediately. She met with FEMA representatives because they needed to send them out to help in the areas damaged by the hurricane. She was shown on the news meeting with FEMA representatives.

It was circulated by Trump and Republicans that FEMA would give persons $750 and no other help and that FEMA funds were used for illegal immigrants instead. Biden was on TV correcting the misinformation. He said $750 was for immediate help and there was a bigger package of help available. He said that FEMA funds were not used for immigrants.

Because of Trump promoting falsehoods, FEMA workers in the destruction areas were getting threats of violence against them. Therefore, they had to shut down some help centers and stop going door to door. Promoting disinformation was causing help to be held up, causing chaos and people would be more upset. Trump never cares who he hurts with his lies. He can’t even be respectful and gracious in a time of tragedy.

Trump said that he will be a dictator on day one. He said that he wanted to terminate the Constitution. He told an audience of Christians at Turning Point that they only have to vote this time and won’t have to worry about voting ever again. He has often praised dictators and authoritarian leaders.

Trump’s former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said that Trump “is fascist to the core.” It was mentioned in The New York Times that Gen. John Kelly, Trump’s former chief of staff, said that Trump “met the definition of a fascist.” For years, Trump has been calling Democrats “Marxists, communists and fascists.” He projects onto others his own situation. Wannabe dictator Trump plans to persecute and get revenge on anyone of significance who criticized him if he gets in office again. He believes in free speech for himself, but wants to punish anyone for their free speech who disagrees with him. That’s what dictators do. He is a danger to this country.

Vote Harris/Walz to preserve the rule of law, the Constitution and our democracy.
