All those years ago

To the Editor,

Bob Seger asks himself in a song, Like A Rock..20 years now, where did they go? I myself like others my age, wonder the same thing. Next year will be my 50th anniversary from

Madonna High School… May 28,1976.

But doing that time, we grew up with some inventions.

Eight track players, reel to reel tape recorders, cassette players, quadraphonic stereos, and calculators. Customized vans, Citizen Band radios, and cable television appeared later on.

But as I look back on all the inventions, pay phone booths, Murphys, KMart, Grants, Sears, and other stores/ malls are nearly extinct. Compact Disc, also known as CDs, replaced turntables, and all the previous mentioned music gadgets. DVD recorders and players, replaced the VHS, and BETA tapes. Oh the joy of owning any of these.

As I sit here at home that is my own, I look back on what my classmates have done. From managers, to teachers, flight attendants, warehouse / steel workers, plant supervisors, construction supervisor/specialists, and even military folk. We learned. We concurred. We succeeded.

Oh. But along that narrow path, we all did crazy things that happened. Some fortunate. Some less fortunate. We can talk about the lab experiments, the school dances, and the prom.

But then we never talked about getting married. Now we show off pictures and videos of our grandchildren. On our portable phones! We even have Dick Tracy watch phones.

We have evolved. And so has time. As our former principal John York would say: ” Freedom with responsibility.” We learned. We strived for answers. We graduated. We succeeded. We look back… and shake our heads. What a journey. Hail Madonna. Shine so bright. So we may see the radiant light. Hail Madonna show the way. And make our spirit…ALWAYS stay.
