Spreading good Christian values in everything

Madonna High School and students always strive to spread good Christian values in every action we, as a school, do. In our sports, we play with humility, and in our extracurricular activities, we always keep Christ in mind. This past week, the Lady Dons were able to humbly defeat the Weir High Red Riders in the City Championship girls’ basketball game. Madonna’s senior Garrett Cook was also able to clench a great victory for Madonna at wrestling OVACs. Our Blue Dons represented off the field as much as they did on it this week. Madonna High School, in cooperation with the Knights of Columbus, joined hundreds of thousands of other conscientious Americans in the March For Life to stop abortion.

On January 18, 2019, Madonna students partook in the National March for Life. Students had the opportunity to take a charter bus to Washington DC. We left around midnight on Friday and did not return until late Friday night. Around 4:30 in the morning, the bus stopped for breakfast, and an hour later we arrived in D.C. Before the March, our group attended a Youth Mass at Capital One Stadium with 18,000 other participants. Afterwards, we traveled to the National Mall to wait for the start of the March. A little after 1:00, the March started. We marched down Constitution Avenue, and after we reached the end we travelled home. Hundreds of thousands of people attended the National March for Life; as a Catholic School, we believe it is important for students to fight for the rights of the unborn.

God graciously blessed the Madonna athletes a little extra this past week. Our Lady Dons were able to dominate over the city rivals, the Weir High Red Riders, in a hard fought game. This year marked the sixth straight time our girls defeated Weir High. On another note, Madonna senior Garrett Cook was crowned first place in OVAC wrestling. He took down his previous teammate, Donavan Kirby, who transferred to Weir High this past year. Madonna always takes pride in everything we do, in addition to carrying our religious morals with us along the way.

Since 1955, Madonna High School has built a support net based on good works and good actions. This past week’s actions add well to the greater ongoing story that is Weirton Madonna High School. Here at Madonna, we are followers of Christ and leaders in the world. See you next week!
