Madonna offers inspiration through education
“Inspiration through education:” one of many mottos that Weirton Madonna High School continues to follow and strengthen everyday.
This is a journey of not only education, but also of faith. Faith is as much a cornerstone of the Madonna curriculum as is academics. Students who attend Madonna are taught values and lessons that help prepare for a successful life.
Madonna has served as a lighthouse of faith in the Weirton community. Recently, the entire school was divided into groups to be sent off all throughout town in order to perform acts of service. It was one of the many events that reaffirmed they continue to put others before themselves. Whether it was serving at the Community Bread Basket, visiting those residing in Wyngate or Serra Manor, or tidying up the middle schools (St. Joseph the Worker and St. Paul’s), Madonna students were given the opportunity to demonstrate wonderful morals and attitudes to relay and spread the duties our Lord initially taught us to do.
Along with faith and education comes athletic success when talking about Weirton Madonna. Last weekend, two hard working seniors, Alec and Garrett Cook, successfully snatched first place in both of their weight classes at the State wrestling tournament. This was the first time in school history brothers placed first in the same year. Both boys and girls basketball teams are prominent examples of Madonna unity. With winter sports coming to a close, track, tennis, softball, and baseball players of Madonna High School excitingly start practice in hopes for a victorious season ahead.
