OHSAA announces sectional pairings, five local teams host

On Sunday with the pairings release by the OHSAA, five local baseball teams found out they will be hosting sectional contests, with four of them taking place on Saturday.
Edison, Toronto, Catholic Central and Buckeye Local will host East District sectional contests in their respective divisions on Saturday, while Big Red will host its sectional final on May 14.
In the Division II, East 1 District bracket, Steubenville is the No. 3 seed and will host the winner of Saturday's contest between No. 15 Carrollton and No. 14 Minerva at 5 p.m. May 14 at Vaccaro Field. Also in the East 1 bracket, Indian Creek received the No. 10 seed and will travel to No. 9 Maysville on May 14. If Big Red and the Redskins prevail, it would set up a potential third meeting between the teams in the district semifinal on May 20.
Sticking in Div. II, in the East 2 bracket, Harrison Central is the No. 13 seed and travels to No. 5 Cambridge on May 14. The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 8 St. Clairsville and No. 6 John Glenn on May 20.
The district finals in both brackets take place on May 22.
In Division III, Edison got the No. 2 seed in the East District and will host No. 16 Newcomerstown on Saturday at 1 p.m. Buckeye Local received the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Buckeye Trail on Saturday at 1 p.m. Should both Edison and Buckeye Local win, the Buckeye 8 Conference rivals would meet at 5 p.m. on May 14. The Div. III district semifinals are on May 20, with the final on May 22.
In Div IV, Toronto received the No. 2 seed in the East District and will look for a 25-straight sectional title, starting with a match up with No. 15 seed Beallsville at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Knights Baseball Complex. If victorious, the Red Knights will meet the winner of No. 7 Tuscarawas Central Catholic and No. 8 Shenandoah on May 14.
Catholic Central received the No. 5 seed and will host No. 10 River at 1 p.m. Saturday. With a win, the Crusaders would face the winner of No. 3 Shadyside and No. 11 Frontier on May 14.
Toronto and Catholic Central could only meet in the district final on May 22, should both teams advance that far.
All games take place at the higher-seeded team's field.
