Bodnar captures district title at Claymont

UHRICHSVILLE -- Steubenville's Keith Bodnar captured a Division II district title on Saturday.

Bodnar, competing in the 195-pound match, defeated Indian Creek's Elijah Llewellyn in a close 4-3 decision. Bodnar was the only local winner in the Claymont region.

Along with Llewellyn, finishing second was Big Red's Tyler Muldrew and Creek's Austin Starr. Muldrew fell to Beaver Local's Cole McComas in the 138-pound match with a 9-2 decision. Starr (182) was pinned by Indian Valley's Jacob Armstrong in 5:30.

Placing third was Steubenville's Aaron Ferguson (145) and David Tuttle (182). Ferguson bested Carrollton's Nathan Blake with a 9-5 decision, while Tuttle won via major decision over Tri-Valley's Dylan Hines, 15-2.

Indian Creek's Reese Spencer (152) finished fourth.

Overall, Beaver Local won with 181.5 overall points. West Holmes was second with 149 and Minerva third with 123. Big Red was fourth with 117, and Indian Creek finished 12th with 67.5.

Division III

During the Division III district tournament at Heath High School, Buckeye Local's Brian Palmer, Jr. and Edison's Hayden Johnson punched their tickets to regionals.

Palmer placed second at 138 pounds. He fell to Newcomerstown's Logan Hursey in the finals, being pinned in 1:50.

Johnson placed fourth at 145 pounds.

The highest Toronto finisher was Garrett Dozier, placing fifth at 138 pounds. Harrison Central's highest was Justin Sampson at 106 pounds, also placing fifth. Both will serve as alternates.

Overall, Pleasant won with 132.5 points. West Muskingum was second with 106 and Northmor third with 99. Buckeye Local was 17th with 50 points, Toronto tied for 25th with 22, Edison 32nd with 17 and Harrison Central 33rd with 15.
