YOUNGSTOWN -- Steubenville saw three champions crowned, had a wrestler battle for state supremacy, placed third out of 11 teams and had a total of 10 wrestlers place sixth or higher Tuesday at the Boardman Holiday Invitational.

Seniors Tyler Muldrew (152 pounds) and Aaron Ferguson (160) remained undefeated on the season, while Nathaniel King won the 195-pound bracket. Muldrew, who is ranked seventh at 152 in Division II, had five pins and a 5-0 decision on the day, pinning Tyler Lintner of Austintown Fitch in 5:37 in the finals. Ferguson, the eighth-ranked wrestler in Division II, pinned his way to the championship match where he defeated Shad Slone of Milan Edison, 9-4.

King was crowned champ in a round-robin format. The junior finished 5-1 on the day with all pins.

In a dress rehearsal for a possible state tournament showdown, Big Red's Ethan Pappas, ranked third at 170 pounds, faced off in the semifinals against Ashland's Braden Welch, the fourth-ranked wrestler. Pappas would end up on the bottom of 6-5 final.

Both wrestlers flexed their muscles in their next matches by defeating state-ranked Division I wrestlers. Pappas took third with a decision over Medina's Matt Hamula. Welch pinned Boardman's Sean O'Horo in the title bout.

Steubenville Freshman Cal Beadling placed third with a quick fall over senior Alec Herman of Austintown Fitch in the consolation finals.

Other Steubenville wrestlers finishing sixth or higher were: fourth-place winners Savier Faulks (138) and Spencer Ostovich (220); fifth-place winners Anthony Shevlin (113) and Javin Harper (heavyweight); and sixth-placer Cole Antill (145).
