PITTSBURGH -- Steubenville's Rich Donnelly will receive some special recognition when the 2021 Larry's Hometown Heroes event is held on Oct. 7 in the Rivers Casino Ballroom.
Since 2013, Larry Richert, a KDKA Radio personality, has honored five Hometown Heroes and presented a lifetime achievement award.
This year, that award will go to Donnelly, a longtime coach in professional baseball.
"I am honored to be the recipient of this year's award," Donnelly said. "Past winners have included Motown recording artist Smokey Robinson, Steelers broadcaster Bill Hillgrove and former Penguins general manager Craig Patrick.
"I am deeply humbled to accept this award on behalf of my family, my coaches and teachers in Steubenville and all my friends in the Ohio Valley."
Heroes to be honored include:
Pleasant Hills police officer Kristin Mitrisin for saving a 9-day old baby.
Herb Yingling for years of service in the Franklin Regional School District and athletic department.
Molly and Dan Rupprecht for forming "The Hope Squad," a suicide awareness program following the loss of their daughter to suicide.
Carol Succop for 50 years of service to Meals on Wheels.
Kelly Ferri, a U.S. Army veteran who has now been working with the city of Pittsburgh to lease houses so recovering addicts and newly released prisoners have a place to go.
The heroes program got started when Richert was looking for a way to showcase local individuals for doing extraordinary things.
Ryan Shazier, the former Steelers linebacker, will be delivering the keynote address.
