Creek, Central pull upsets

By From staff reports 2 min read

Two local teams advanced on the road in sectional action on Tuesday by upsetting higher seeds in their respective divisions.

In the Division II East 1 District bracket, Indian Creek scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to stun No. 3 seed Cambridge to win the sectional title and advance to the district semifinals.

Cambridge had beaten Indian Creek, the No. 12 seed, in the OVAC semifinals and in last year's district final, so win is some revenge for the Redskins.

Landon Pownall and Sy Howell drove in the winning runs with back-to-back RBI singles

Howell got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save after Trevor Lash went the first six innings and got the win.

Jack Amis had a triple while Aiden Orr and Lucca Morelli had an RBI.

Creek will meet No. 5 seed New Philadelphis in the district semis on Monday.

In Division IV, Catholic Central finally finished its sectional semifinal upset of No. 10 Conotton Valley, 17-7, on Tuesday after the game was halted on Saturday.

Alex Solema had three hits and two RBIs, while David Kissinger had a double and two RBIs and Ryan Anderson also plated a pair of runs.

The Crusaders advance to take on No. 1 seed Shadyside in the sectional final today.
