Edison baseball hits milestone with program’s 500th win

RICHMOND -- The Edison baseball program reached a major milestone on Monday evening, topping Heartland Christian 13-3 for the 500th win in the 27-season history of the program.

It took an average of better than 18.5 wins per season for the Wildcats to reach the mark in that timeframe.

In Monday's game, the Wildcats quickly erased a 1-0 hole in the top of the first, taking the lead with two in the bottom half, then again battled back to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth after falling behind again.

Then, in the bottom of the fourth, coach Mike Collopy's club plated eight runs to take control for good, plating 10 in the final two of the mercy-rule-shortened game.

Gage Cline had a monstrous performance at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a double and seven RBIs.

Ian McBane had a triple, Hunter Rothacker went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Isaac Zastudil plated a pair of runs.

Rothacker went all five innings for the win on the mound, striking out nine and walking three.

Weir edges Creek

MINGO JUNCTION -- In a rematch between that met just three days prior, Weir High went on the road and just got past Indian Creek, 3-2, Monday at Muth Field.

Tyler Kelly fired a complete game with six strikeouts, while Luke Gillette had a pair of RBIs for the Red Riders in the win.

G. Cross had a two-hit game with an RBI, while Mason Drobish also had two hits.

Ty Householder and Aiden Orr each had an RBI for Creek, while Trevor Lash struck out four in five innings of work on the mound in taking the loss.

The teams were tied 1-1 after one inning and the Redskins took a 2-1 lead through two, but a two-run top of the fourth by the Red Riders provided the difference.

Brooke doubles-up Toronto

TORONTO -- The Brooke baseball team got a big win on Monday at Toronto, topping the Red Knights 12-6 at the Knights Baseball Complex.

Brooke fell behind 4-1 early, came storming back, then broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the seventh with a six-run onslaught to take the win.

Garrett Hornick had a pair of hits and an RBI, while Carson Lauttamus drove in a pair of runs and Charlie Fuscardo, who doubled, had two hits.

Hornick threw the final 5 2/3 innings to get the win in relief.

Evan Wolter had a pair of RBIs for Toronto, while Logan Sloan had a double, two hits and an RBI.

Blake Close took the loss, throwing the first six-plus innings.

Madonna bounces back to top Linsly

WEIRTON -- The Madonna baseball team quickly put its heart-breaking OVAC final loss over the weekend behind it by edging Linsly, 8-7, on Monday evening at Edwin J. Bowman Field.

Brycen Hair had a double and an RBI, while Coleton Littleton had two hits and an RBI, as did David Connors and Luke Amaismeier had a pair of hits.

Littleton had five strikeouts in three innings, while Marques Parker went the final three for the win in relief and fanned a pair.

Madonna plated four runs in the bottom of the first and made it 5-0 in the second before Linsly got on the board in the third and started storming back.

Ultimately, the game was tied at 7-7 before the Blue Dons added the winning run in the bottom of the sixth and Parker put up a zero to close it out in the top of the seventh.

Big Red falls

DOVER -- The Big Red baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to Dover on the road on Monday.

With the loss, Big Red now falls to 9-7.

Ayden Manning had two singles, while J.T. Thompson had three strikouts before being relieved in the fifth. Manning had two strikeouts.

SOFTBALL

Creek prevails in 10

MINGO JUNCTION -- Indian Creek and Toronto battled for 10 innings on Monday, and the Redskins ultimately previaled, 6-5.

Abbey Starkey singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning, while Carley Jo Penner had four hits in the win.

Emma Vok had two doubles and Emileah Booth had two hits, including a double.

Trinity Taylor struck out nine and got the win in relief, while Penner started and fanned seven.

The Red Knights got two singles and an RBI from Ashton Thomas and a double and an RBI from Isabell Cattrell.

Buckeye wins

fifth-straight

CONNORVILLE -- The Buckeye Local softball team stayed on its recent hot-streak, extending its win streak to five games with an 11-0 victory over Bridgeport on Monday.

Morgan Richardson tripled, while isabella Hepburn doubled and drove in three runs.

Kassidy George, Avah Williams and Alexa Williams had multiple hits.

Samantha Ankrom pitched all five innings for the win, striking out four.

Red Riders win big

ST. CLAIRSVILLE -- The Weir High softball team took a 16-6 win on the road at St. Clairsville on Monday.

Reagan Hoover had a single, double and two RBIs, Mallory Rosnick had two singles and a double and an RBI, while Madison Angus singled three times and had an RBI.

Rayna Hoover had three singles and two RBIs.

Rylee Donaldson worked in the circle for the Red Riders, fanning two in earning the win.
