CADIZ -- Tristen Kovarik fanned nine, didn't walk a batter and scattered four hits as the No. 2 seeded Huskies (15-6) moved on to the Division III sectional finals against Union Local.
Isabella Yeager singled three times to knock in four runs while Lizzie Clelland collected three runs batted in with a single and double. Olivia Tonkovich also had a single and double that produced two runs. Sarah Touville had an RBI.
Panthers season ends
SUGAR CREEK -- Buckeye Local's season came to an end on Monday with a 14-1 loss at Garaway in Division III sectional action.
Morgan Richardson had a double and an RBI for the Panthers, while Isabella Hepburn doubled and Samantha Ankrom had three strikeouts in the circle.
Edison moves on
The Edison softball team won its Division III sectional opener on Monday, 12-0, over Sandy Valley.
The Wildcats move on to face top-seeded Martins Ferry on the road on Thursday.
REGULAR SEASON
Indian Creek
falls to Dover
DOVER -- Indian Creek faced a tough test as it gets ready for tournament action as it fell to Dover on Monday, 5-2.
Trinity Taylor had an RBI and struck out four in the final 2 2/3 innings in relief.
Carley Penner, who also had a base hit, had one strikeout in 3 1/3 innings.
Creek faces Big Red in sectionl action on Wednesday.
BASEBALL
Central tops Edison
STEUBENVILLE -- The Catholic Central baseball team got a big confidence booster in the final stretch of the regular season as the Crusaders topped Edison, 18-4, Monday night at Vaccaro Field.
Alex Solema and Kody Carver each had four RBIs, Carver knocking s triple.
Ryan Anderson and Peyton Rauch each doubled, Rauch driving in three runs.
Anderson had five strikouts in two relief innings, while Andrew Doresy went the first three and got the win.
Isaac Zastudil, who had a pair of stikeouts in taking the loss for Edison on the mound, had a pair of RBIs and a double for the Wildcats.
Dover pulls away
from Big Red
STEUBENVILLE -- Dover's Crimson Tornado did damage with the bats in the fourth and seventh innings to pull away from Big Red on Monday, 6-2.
Cooper Blackburn and Lee Sewell each had an RBI single for Big Red.
Blackburn struck out three in five innings, while Ayden Manning fanned two in the final two.
Ferry breaks through, tops Indian Creek
MINGO JUNCTION -- Visiting Martins Ferry plated 10 runs in the final four innings Monday to pull away for a 13-5 victory over Indian Creek at Muth Field.
Aiden Orr had a double, triple and two RBIs for the Redskins, while Landon Pownall, Sy Howell and Jack Amis each drove in a run.
Trevor lash fanned two in 3 1/3, while Sal Barcalow sat down three in relief.
